I don't believe the four headlight/headlight covered DS 21+ is the prettiest. DS19 fo lyfe, yo.

I totally agree with you,
and that is a superior example!

I'm afraid I do. The smoother nose fits in better with the rest of the shape, and IMO it looks more modern.

I think the roofline on any DS separates it far enough from its contemporaries and modern cars that modernity doesn't really sell for me. The later DS looks "cooler", but I'm not wholly comfortable with the direction it takes the design: shark vs. frog. The early type just seems to have more character. Also, hidden inlets at the headlights: cool.

Hidden inlets, you say?
I looked in the picture for them, but, well, they're hidden...

Not all of them have them, I don't think - I'm not sure what the breakover years are, but it's a very neat feature. IIRC it's something like one for cab air, one for engine air.

Four light DS19 is best DS19, is best DS

Four headlight through rally lights (and headlight hidden vents): groovy. Four headlight with all under covers, no me gusta.

I didn't know about the hidden vents 'till now. That's oui oui magnifucè. (Yes, I'm a native French speaker, deal with it)

Those inlets (generally referred to as 'ashtrays' in the Netherlands) were there from '62 to '67 as far I can make out. The issue was to get enough cooling to both the engine and the disk brakes; they kept fiddling with it over the whole life span of the D series.
In any case, you're quite right, the 'first nose'
is the prettiest, no question.

Dual lights FTW. I find it's a lot more pure, especially on a shape like this.

I'd honestly be so happy if I had any Citroën DS that I wouldn't be choosy.
